Instilling Moral Values Essential to Good Education

Release of CBSE’s ‘Values Education’ Kit

The Minister of Human Resource Development Dr M M Pallam Raju released CBSE’s Values Education Kit in New Delhi today. CBSE brought out the innovative kit as part of its efforts in the area of promoting values in education. 

In his keynote address the Minister said instilling values in children was crucial to a rounded education. Dr Pallam Raju said moral education is essential for all children today, and praised CBSE for putting together a kit for teachers to guide their students. He pointed out that values such as harmony, peace, compassion and humility have for centuries been a part of the discourse of every religion in the world and their need and importance is universally accepted and felt, more so in the current social and political context. 

Sh Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State for Human Resource Development said education is more than producing well-filled minds. It is also about well- formed minds. He observed that in order to cope up with challenges because of lack of ethical education among students, CBSE is bringing about reforms in its curriculum. 

Sh Pradeep Kumar, Chief Vigilance Commissioner , and Sh Vineet Joshi, Chairman , Central Board For Secondary Education (CBSE) also spoke on the occasion. 

The Value Education Kit consists of a Values Education Teachers Handbook and a CD with 8 songs symbolizing values of peace, solidarity and respect for nature. The kit also has activity cards for students from nursery to standard 12. The Values Education curriculum will help in providing a number of exciting learning experiences through the Values Education Kit .The Values Education Teachers’ Handbook is a valuable resource for teachers to easily draw ideas for conducting lively and interactive sessions in their classes. The activities, designed by experts in the field of education, allow for more critical thinking about economic, social and moral issues as well as about universal human values. The materials offered are highly interactive, addressing current issues with opportunities for critical thinking.
